In the latest MacOS Ventura 13.1 Beta update, Apple further enhanced the Find My function to support the search for AirTags. Previously, users could only search for AirTag in Find My for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. In the previous MacOS version, users could only search for iPhone, AirPods and other devices through the Find My function. This beta update is the first time to extend traceable devices to AirTag and other item tracking devices that support Find My.

To find this new option, users need to open the Find My application on the Mac. Then click on the "Items" tab and click on the accessories you want to find. In addition to the general option of locating items, the beta version also adds the option of "playing sound". After clicking, trackable accessories such as AirTag will make a sound. The overall operation is the same as on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

Find My is a combination of Find My iPhone and Find My Friends. In the new system, Apple has integrated these two applications in order to pursue simplicity. Find My works on iOS13, iPadOS (a new system customized by Apple for iPad) and macOS 10.15. Its core function is still to find the lost device. In fact, Find My has become more powerful. The previous Find My iPhone, whether iPhone, iPad, iPod or Mac, must be powered on to send location information, otherwise it will be unable to locate the device, which has a certain impact on device retrieval.

Find My Workflow
1. After using the Find My app to connect with a Find My peripheral, they negotiate a pair of secret keys. Find My app stores the private key and public key; Peripherals store public keys.
2. As a BLE beacon, peripherals continuously broadcast a changing secret key (derived from the public key).
3. After the surrounding Apple devices (iPad, iPhone, etc., can be other people's devices) detect the broadcast, they will package the secret key and upload it to the Apple server in combination with their own location data.
4. Find My app gets these location reports from the server and parses the relevant location data.

Find My Supported Features
Harmful tracking detection function: This function will notify the user of the accessories that may not be recognized normally, and track the location information of such accessories over time.
Loss mode setting number: It supports setting specific devices or accessories to loss mode through this network. You can also set a reserved number to let people contact you when they find it.
Find the location of the lost device: When a user loses a device, it can be marked as the loss mode, and then the device information will spread to each other in the Bluetooth network.
Finally, when a user's Bluetooth detects the lost item, it will send its approximate location back to the first lost user to help the user quickly find the device.
Control the device to play sound: it can remotely initiate playing sound to help users find accessories. This action supports both accessory owners and non owners.
After finding the approximate location of the accessories, the user can let the owner's iOS device emit a sound to remind, and the owner cancels the reminder to find the device.

With the addition of third-party devices, the layout of Find My Network will be enriched. Find My Network will provide a third-party interface to provide better services. It will not damage user privacy. Except for users, neither Apple nor a third party will know the specific location of the phone. Apple's Find My technology uses the Bluetooth wireless signal of Apple devices to create a device network to find lost items. They will work with third-party companies to build Find My Network loss prevention products.
